Bookkeeping & Payroll for Austin Businesses
Weekly bookkeeping, payroll, and back-office operations for Austin construction, trades, and practices. Based in Bulverde, serving Austin remotely.
In Austin, the Business Usually Outgrows the Back Office First.
Austin businesses scale faster than almost anywhere in Texas. The work arrives, headcount follows, and the bookkeeping setup that was fine two years ago is quietly the thing holding everything up.
Growth outran the setup
What worked at six employees doesn't hold at twenty-five. The books weren't wrong, they just stopped being able to answer the question.
Headcount crossed a line nobody watched
Compliance obligations step rather than scale. At an average of 50 or more full-time and full-time-equivalent employees in the prior year, an employer becomes an Applicable Large Employer under the ACA — measured on last year's average, so it arrives before anyone notices.
Hiring outside Texas started quietly
One remote hire in another state creates registration and withholding obligations there. It's rarely a decision anyone makes deliberately.
Growing fast is the good problem. It's still a problem, and it breaks the back office before it breaks anything else.
We're a bookkeeping and financial operations firm in Bulverde, serving Austin remotely. Not a CPA firm — we work alongside yours.
Bookkeeping for Austin Construction, Trades, and Practices
The same three industries we have the most depth in at home. What changes in Austin is the shape of the problems, not the work.
Commercial Construction
Residential and commercial contractors moving at Austin speed. Job costing that keeps up with concurrent work, WIP schedules, retainage tracked as its own balance, and certified payroll on public projects. See construction bookkeeping.
Trades & Field Services
HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and route-based services across a metro that keeps adding rooftops. Service and install margins kept separate, because blending them hides which side of the business is carrying the other. See trades.
Medical & Dental Practices
Practices adding providers and locations faster than their reporting adapts. Payer reconciliation, provider-level profitability, and the multi-entity structures practices accumulate. See practices.
The Whole Back Office
Any of it individually, or all of it as one outsourced department at a flat monthly price. See your back office.
Scaling Is Where Compliance Quietly Becomes Expensive
Fast growth doesn't just strain the books. It walks businesses across thresholds that carry real obligations, usually during a good year when nobody is reading regulations.
Payroll thresholds arrive on last year's numbers
The ACA Applicable Large Employer test is measured on the prior calendar year's twelve-month average of full-time and full-time-equivalent employees. Cross 50 and the obligations follow, whether or not anyone was tracking it. We watch headcount against the thresholds that matter as it moves.
Remote hires create multi-state exposure
Austin companies hire outside Texas earlier than most. Registration and withholding follow the employee's work location, so a single hire in another state can create filing obligations nobody planned for.
The books stop answering the question
At a certain size, company-level margin stops being useful. You need profit by job, by crew, by provider, by location — and a chart of accounts built for six employees can't produce it no matter how carefully it's maintained.

We're in Bulverde, not Austin. We're not going to imply otherwise, and we'd be skeptical of a firm that did. What we will tell you is that almost nobody leaves their bookkeeper over the drive — they leave because they asked a question and waited four days. More on where we work.
Working With Us From Austin
Are you actually located in Austin?
No — we're based in Bulverde, Texas, and we serve Austin businesses remotely. We're specific about that rather than implying a local office, because that claim is easy to make and easy to see through.
The work itself doesn't change. Weekly coding, monthly close, payroll, and a named team you can reach the same business day.
Are you a CPA firm?
No — we are not a CPA firm. Bulverde Business Solutions is a bookkeeping and financial operations firm. We do not prepare tax returns, render tax opinions, or perform audit, review, attest, or assurance work.
We work alongside your CPA and hand them closed, reconciled, reviewed books at year end, which usually reduces what they charge for cleanup.
How do documents get to you?
Through Canopy — a SOC 2–compliant client portal with encrypted file transfer. No documents move over email. The SOC 2 attestation belongs to Canopy as the platform provider; we are not ourselves SOC 2 audited.
We carry Professional Liability (E&O), Cyber Liability, and General Liability insurance. Worth asking anyone you're considering the same question.
What does it cost?
One flat monthly price, quoted after we've looked at transaction volume, entity count, payroll complexity, and the condition of the current books. No hourly billing, and calls aren't metered.
Can you handle payroll across multiple states?
Yes. Registration and withholding obligations follow where employees actually work, not where your office is — which catches a lot of growing businesses out. More on payroll services.
Our books are behind. Is that a problem?
Common and not disqualifying. Cleanup comes first, quoted separately as one-time work with a defined end. See cleanup bookkeeping.
Do you work with Austin construction companies?
Yes — commercial and residential contractors are a large share of our client base. Job costing, WIP schedules, retainage, progress billing, and certified payroll on prevailing-wage projects.
We also handle general liability and workers' compensation premium audits, which most bookkeeping firms don't. See insurance audit support.
We're hiring outside Texas. Can you handle that?
Yes. Multi-state payroll registration and withholding are driven by where employees actually work. We handle the registrations and keep the filings tied to what the ledger says about wages.
Beyond Bookkeeping. Built for Growth.
Tell us what's actually going on. We'll tell you honestly whether we're the right fit — including whether being a few hours away matters for your situation.
